Are you an expert on Afghanistan with a passion for security, human rights, peacebuilding, and development? Join us as a Research Fellow, Senior Research Fellow, or Distinguished Fellow and help shape the future of Afghanistan through impactful research and policy development!

The Afghanistan Security Institute (ASI) is a growing organization dedicated to addressing Afghanistan’s most pressing security, economic, and human rights challenges. We are seeking highly experienced and motivated experts to join our team. Whether you’re early in your career or a seasoned professional, ASI offers opportunities to contribute at different levels through its Fellowships:

We Are Looking For Experts in:

  • Security and Conflict Studies: Analyze security dynamics and provide innovative solutions for peace and stability.
  • Economic Development: Explore sustainable economic strategies to foster growth and resilience in Afghanistan.
  • Human Rights: Advocate for the protection of human rights and non-violent conflict resolution.
  • Geopolitics: Research regional and international influences on Afghanistan’s security landscape.
  • Governance and Policy: Develop evidence-based recommendations for effective governance and policymaking in Afghanistan.
  • Afghanistan’s Bilateral Relations with Other Countries: Examine and analyze Afghanistan’s diplomatic, security, and economic relations with key countries, contributing insights on how these partnerships impact Afghanistan’s future.

Positions Available:

1. Research Fellow:

  • Ideal for mid-career professionals or early-career experts with at least 5 years of experience in international relations, security studies, or related fields.
  • Master’s degree required, PhD preferred.
  • Strong writing and research skills with the ability to contribute to policy briefs, reports, and academic publications.

2. Senior Research Fellow:

  • Suited for experienced professionals with 10+ years of experience in relevant fields.
  • PhD required or a Master’s degree with a robust body of work.
  • Demonstrated expertise in Afghanistan’s security, political, and economic landscape.
  • Proven experience publishing in academic journals, think tank reports, or reputable media outlets.
  • Ability to lead major research projects, collaborate with international policymakers, and mentor junior fellows.

3. Distinguished Fellow:

  • Reserved for former ambassadors, senior diplomats, or highly recognized scholars with 20+ years of experience in international relations, security studies, or Afghanistan’s geopolitical landscape.
  • Bachelor’s degree acceptable if combined with extensive relevant experience and demonstrated contributions to international security or diplomacy.
  • Distinguished Fellows play a leading role in shaping ASI’s research agenda and policy recommendations, engage in high-level diplomacy, and provide strategic guidance to the Institute.

As a Fellow at ASI, You Will:

  • Conduct in-depth research on Afghanistan’s security, economic, and political challenges, and its relations with other countries.
  • Collaborate with international experts and policymakers to influence U.S. and global policies.
  • Contribute to high-level reports, policy briefs, and academic publications.
  • Present your findings at conferences, webinars, and other public forums.
  • Depending on your level, lead and mentor other researchers and contribute to ASI’s strategic direction.

Preferred Qualifications for All Levels:

  • Strong expertise in Afghanistan’s security, governance, economic, human rights issues, or its bilateral relations with key global partners.
  • Publication experience in recognized academic journals, think tank reports, or reputable media outlets.
  • Strong research, analytical, and communication skills.
