Who We Are?

The Afghanistan Security Institute (ASI) is an independent and non-partisan think-tank currently based in Ottawa, Canada, and would-be headquartered in Washington, DC. Founded in 2021, ASI is dedicated to focusing on Afghanistan—issues that influence Afghanistan’s and international security. ASI aims to be the most reliable source of policy-oriented research and analysis on Afghanistan security for Afghan and international actors. 

ASI is incorporated with the government of Canada under Canada Not-for-profit Corporations Act.

Goal

  • To identify issues that directly or indirectly influence the security situation in Afghanistan via conducting rigorous research and policy analysis.
  • To become a leading actor in influencing the US' and other international actors' policy toward Afghanistan.
  • To provide actors with non-violent and policy guidance through evidence-based research.
  • To organize conferences, seminars, training programs and speaking to media on critical issues.

Vision

  • To envision an Afghanistan free from domestic and international terrorism.
  • To ensure that Afghanistan does not become a source of danger for the US and international security in the post-US withdrawal period.
  • To ensure a stable and prosperous Afghanistan where human rights are protected and international cooperation is sought.
